Opposites Attract: The Cutest Cartoon Couples

Opposites attract. You might have heard that phrase a lot, but for a lot of cartoon couples that’s more than true. There’s a lot of positives to opposites attract and there’s a lot of downfalls. The positives always out way the bad because you get to love someone you never thought you could love.

Here are ten of the cutest cartoon couples that prove that opposites attract in the best of ways.

———-

Ruby & Sapphire (Steven Universe)
We’re going to start with the cutest of the cute. Ruby & Sapphire fought through prejudice in order to be together. Both from a different type of pedigree, when an incident causes them to fuse for the first time, they were met with disgust. However, in that, they ran away starting a new life for each other and now… they’re Garnet. Their love is a fusion and they’re the physical embodiment of the love they have for each other. Whenever they’re apart, it’s always a treat, but when they’re together, it’s always lovely as well.

Rose & Greg (Steven Universe)
Rose and Greg were polar opposites when first meeting. Greg, a wannabe rockstar with a goal to shoot like a comet and Rose, a warrior gem who wants to change the world, both of them couldn’t be different from one another, but both of them work so well. Greg and Rose’s love also combined to make something beautiful, Steven Universe. Greg continues to be a fantastic father to Steven, raising him in the human way while the Gems take care of the other stuff. Rose had to give up her physical form in order to give birth to him, it was a sacrifice she wanted to make, but left him her legacy and love to keep with him forever.

Marceline and Bubblegum (Adventure Time)
Would you believe me if I told you I had three pieces of Marceline and Bubblegum art? I do because they’re my favorite cartoon couple ever. Marceline and Bubblegum are another set of polar opposites. Marceline, The Vampire Queen comes from the Nightosphere, drinking anything red and trying her very best. Princess Bubblegum is the ruler of the Candy Kingdom and a bit of a mega genius. The both of them don’t seem to get along at first, but there is a hidden history to the both of them that involve them actually being a couple! They’re the cutest couple, even when you get into their relationship and their comic relationships, you crave more Bubbline all the time.

Fire Princess & Finn (Adventure Time)
The couple that burns. Finn has always had a crush on Princess Bubblegum, but when he figured out that was probably going nowhere, he had no choice but to move on. When he did, he found a newfound love in Flame Princess unintentionally. However, the two carried an adorable relationship until the episode Frost & Fire,” where Finn makes a really big mistake and the break up right after. We hope these two can make up because they still probably have love for each other. *crosses fingers*

Linda & Bob (Bob’s Burgers)
The married couple we all inspire to be. Linda and Bob are not only one of the best married couples in cartoons, but they’re also hilarious, loving, supportive and caring of one another. Honestly, out of all the cartoons on Fox, Linda and Bob Belcher seem to have the whole married thing working for them in the best kind of way. Linda got out of an engagement to be with Bob and supports him with all her might. Bob, in returns, supports her with all of her endeavors (no matter how crazy they are).

Daria & Trent (Daria)
Because I live in denial and constantly believe this was a real thing, I’m gonna write about it. Daria and Trent were the couple that could have been. They lived in two different world, one brainy and the other grunde-y. On the opposites attract scale, they both acknowledge how different they were (and thought), but it was clear that there could have/should have been some attraction there. In my opinion, Daria’s always had a lot more chemistry with Trent than she ever had with Tom. I wish this opposite attracts couple had gotten together, but I can always live in seasons one through three for my Daria/Trent OTP.

Daphne & Fred (Scooby Doo)
Daphne & Fred aren’t very opposites attract, but they’re still a rich and mighty cartoon couple that I just need to write about. Daphne and Fred are that gorgeous high school couple that you see walking down the hallways of your school. Holding hands, kissing against your locker, until you want to set them on fire. However, in Scooby Doo, they very much work with each other. Fred is always protective of Daphne in his own way, but never picked up on hints that Daphne was even interest. Daphne is basically blowing a horn at him, telling her she’s ready to make things official.

Robin and Starfire (Teen Titans)
Robin (Dick Grayson) and Starfire have always had this unspoken chemistry to them in the original Teen Titans. It was lying there, underneath the surface, but then it finally happened and it was just… utterly satisfying. These two come from two very different existences before joining together to create Teen Titans. Robin was the sidekick of Batman while Starfire came from Tamaran, an alien planet where her and her sister Blackfire grew up. In the movie, Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo, the two FINALLY and OFFICIALLY became a couple. In Teen Titans Go!, the romance between the couple of often played upon until they finally landed their kiss there too. Nothing can separate an alien from her favorite Robin.

Dipper & Pacifica (Gravity Falls)
Don’t look at me like that. Give me a chance to explain myself. They’ve never actually been a couple, but if you don’t see the small chemistry between these two kids, what are you doing? Dipper and Pacifica mainly hated each other. Pacifica is a spoiled rich girl who has basically everything, but deep down she’s looking to break away from her parents and be her own person. Dipper is a boy seeking adventure, has a huge (and tragic) crush on Wendy and sort of insecure with himself. When both of them graced the screen together in the episode “Northwest Mansion Mystery”, it seems that both of them like each other a little more than they actually thought they might. It’s even hinted in Journal 3 that Dipper might harbor a small crush on Pacifica.

Gumball and Penny (The Amazing World of Gumball)
I think this is THE couple to say that opposites attract, but Gumball and Penny are just so adorable that it should be a crime. Two friends who have always liked each other, they didn’t know how to express their emotions until the episode “The Shell.” What makes them opposites attract are very much only in their appearances. Penny is (or was) an anthropomorphic peanut, that is truly a shape-shifting fairy and Gumball is basically… just a cat, but the both of them are awesome together in the best of ways. Seriously guys, watch the episode, “The Shell” and make sure you watch The Amazing World of Gumball. (Watch it… it’s so good… seriously.”
