Robin Hood has now been rebooted, remade and reinvented upwards of one million times, basically. Between movie, TV, and book and/or comic adaptations, we’ve seen it a LOT over the years. I’m not particularly sick of it, though. Like my feelings on The Wizard of Oz, Robin Hood is a big world to play around in and I definitely think there are plenty stories left to tell.
Hollywood definitely agrees as they’ve green lit another Robin Hood film starring Suicide Squad’s Margot Robbie. This time, however, the main focus of the film won’t be on Robin Hood but rather Robbie’s character, Marian aka Maid Marian. Unlike Robin and Marian, which starred Audrey Hepburn, the film here will take a “serious and truly gritty turn”.
After a conspiracy to conquer England in which the love of her life Robin Hood dies before her eyes, Marian picks up the cause to lead her people into a pivotal war. She comes to power, charging into a battle that will not only decide the fate of the kingdom, but that will see her don the mantle of the man she loved. In the process, she rises as a legend herself.
I really like Margot Robbie, and I think that this movie, if done well, could be a lot of fun. Like I said, I’m not opposed to stories within the same world told time and time again… just give me something interesting to work with and something new and I’m happy. This definitely qualifies.
NOTE: I’ve used the fox Maid Marian photo here as our header because why the heck not… it’s the best Robin Hood adaptation that we’ve seen with Men in Tights being a close second.
